Why Larong Retro?

The Nintendo Family Computer
The Nintendo Family Computer was the console that started it all for me. It was an icon of the 80s
I  am 27 years old. That pretty much says a lot about me, born in the 80s when the Famicom was in every household and every kid was playing with Mario and Kontra. It was a time when a Gameboy was on every kids Christmas wish and and every new game, no matter how simple they were steals hours of our precious lives. Growing up, video games have made such an impact on my life that I continued to play games to this very day. However, with the hundreds of new titles released each year, and my work and life as a father, my game time has significantly decreased. However, whenever I get a chance to play, I play old school, I play the games that I used to play and have mastered playing. Specially the games released for the Sony Playstation (PSX) until a few years ago my Memory Card was damaged and with nowhere to find a replacement, I stopped.
Sony Playstation (PSX)
The Sony Playstation pretty much cemented my love for gaming.  It was the console of the 90s
Sony Playstation Memory Card (PSX)
The Memory Card contains not just saved games, these are what I consider as moments of my life. Losing my Memory Card felt like losing parts of my life.

A few months ago I discovered that there is an emulator for PSX, I the downloaded ePSXe, an emulator for PSX and since then, every night, after I put my little girl to sleep I sit on my computer and play all the games that I used to play. If you want to know more about ePSXe, click here. It offers an introduction and tutorial on how to install ePSXe. (P.E.Op.S. Softdriver works best as video plug-in for my PC). With emulators giving me a new opportunity to play my beloved games, my love (probably addiction) for video games was renewed. So why Larong Retro, why do I choose to play retrogames? Simple, It reminds me of the good old days when my life was so much simpler and games were revolutionary. I see the games today as shadows of their former selves, better graphic..maybe, but not as revolutionary as during the 80s and 90s. The Playstation defined an era of gaming that pretty much carries on to this day. I created this blog as a journal of my video gaming life, let's just say it is my new found Memory Card.
