Released in 1993,(20 years ago) Mega Man X is a spin-off of the Mega
Man series. The story is set 100 years after the Mega Man series and carries a
more mature tone than the original. Building on the already awesome game that
is Mega Man, the Mega Man X series introduced characters that I have to admit,
were much more memorable than the characters of the original. The addition of
the armor upgrades does not only make X look even cooler but also allows
players to gain additional abilities and thus, a much different gameplay and
gaming experience. Upgrades include a leg upgrade which allows X to dash,
X-buster upgrade which improves charged attacks and adds charging of weapons, a
body armor upgrade which reduces damage by half and a helmet upgrade to break
walls using X’s head (hahaha, now that’s using your head). Completing all armor
upgrades, subtanks and heart tanks gives an additional capsule upgrade which
allows X to use the hadouken. The hadouken can kill enemies (including bosses)
instantly.
Some criticize the game on its low difficulty but I would say that the
game is not really that easy, it only becomes easy after playing the game a
couple of times. The game becomes really easy once all upgrades are completed
which is actually good since this gives the player the chance to experience and
see how powerful X really is. (is still the easiest among the Mega Man X franchise) Mega Man X is a great game with good plot,
graphics, sound, gameplay and replay value. This maybe a spin-off but it
successfully transitioned Mega Man and reinvented the game to cater to more
mature players. This game is definitely worth playing (and replaying).
Here’s a playthrough of the game, this is complete and shows all the
locations of the heart tanks, subtanks and armor upgrades (including the
hadouken).
